The Howick & Districts Historical Society Inc continues to promote understanding of our heritage and history through support of the 175th Trust Anniversary celebrations recognising this important year of 2022. The Society was established in the 1960’s by three local women, Dee Collings, Eileen Martenson and Alwyn Zellman who approached another redoubtable local identity, Miss Nixon and thus was the Historical Society born.
In recognising the establishment of European settlement at Owairoa – now Howick – the Society subsequently developed the much loved Howick Historical Village in Lloyd Elsmore Park.
We commend the 175th Trust for their initiative in drawing attention to this important anniversary which provides a cultural perspective for the many and varied vibrant communities who call Howick and surrounding districts home today.
